ProSafe Storage is Now Serving the Northern Neck - ProSafe Storage
ProSafe Storage is excited to announce the recent acquisition of two self-storage facilities in Kilmarnock, VA. ProSafe is now leasing units at 524 N Main St., just behind Advance Auto and 120 Hawthorne Ave., adjacent to Tractor Supply.
Both facilities, formerly known as Kilmarnock Mini-Storage, were owned and operated by the Hudnall Family. Mike Hanky, a principal of ProSafe Storage, has a family connection with the Hudnalls going back many years.
“A friend called to tell me the two stores had been listed for sale; I made an offer almost immediately,” said Hanky. “My partners and I have considered entering the market for a few years, but the right opportunity has not presented itself until now.”
“We received multiple offers, but my family and I felt confident that the ProSafe Team would be great to deal with and take what my father built to the next level,” said Joe Hudnall.
“ProSafe has big plans for the Kilmarnock stores. We are working with our general contractor and a group of local sub-contractors to give both facilities a makeover,” Hanky said.
Work will get underway this spring with the goal of completing renovations by mid-summer with minimal disruption to current customers. Updates include new perimeter fencing, electronic gate access, and a series of remotely monitored cameras to enhance security on-site. In addition, most roll-up doors and locking mechanisms will be replaced, drive aisles will be paved, and all buildings will be freshly painted. Operationally, customers will benefit from the technology incorporated at all ProSafe stores.
Customers can rent a unit, make payments, insure their belongings, and communicate with friendly staff online at www.prosafestorage.com from the comfort of their homes. Local ProSafe manager Suzanne Carey is happy to meet in person.
The ProSafe team has also recently acquired approximately six acres at the intersection of James B. Jones Memorial Highway and Irvington Road. An entity tied to local developer Charles Chase was the seller. Chase secured approval to construct a self-storage facility at the location but ultimately decided not to build.
ProSafe plans to move the project forward with a modified layout for the almost 40,000 square feet of leasable space, most of which will be temperature-controlled. ProSafe will include a purpose-built central office in the new development to serve customers of all three Kilmarnock area locations. Construction is scheduled to begin this spring and finish by late 2025.
Mike Hanky’s parents, Jean and Jack Hanky built a home in White Stone around 1990.
“I spent a lot of time in the area as a kid and have continued to visit regularly for over 30 years,” Hanky said. “In 2021, my wife and I had an opportunity to purchase a home next door to my parents, who had recently moved down the road to Irvington. We try to be in the Northern Neck as much as we can and get involved in the community where we can.”
Mike is also a partner at Camp Irvington, an outdoor hospitality venue, along with his relative, Anthony Marchetti, and friend, Craig Dodson.
The ProSafe Team is thrilled to serve the Northern Neck! They are in the process of joining the Chamber of Commerce and looking for new ways to support the community. When entering any new market, ProSafe aims to earn customers’ trust and support local initiatives whenever possible.
